DESIGN SERVICES
Why Use A Garden Designer?
Garden designers are professionally trained in plant knowledge, design techniques and landscaping materials and technologies. We can oversee the project from start to finish removing the stresses for you.

Initial Process
The first step is usually a phone call to chat about your garden and understand your expectations. I can then arrange a visit to your garden to discuss your requirements in more detail so that a design fee quotation can be prepared.
I will send you a garden questionnaire before our first meeting to help you think about what you want from your garden.

Site Survey and Site Analysis
The first stage of the project is to carry out a site survey and complete a site analysis. For smaller sites I will carry this out whilst surveys for larger or complex sites will be carried out by an external surveying company.
A scale site survey plan is drawn up which is referenced in subsequent design work. It is key to creating a design that works and for determining budgetary costings for the work required. A site analysis is also carried out which considers the soil type, pH levels, light, aspects, shade, drainage, services, trees or features to be retained and other environmental factors.

Creating a Design Concept
This involves the collection and analysis of requirements and formalising a requirements brief and creating mood boards to assist discussion about styles, materials, planting etc.
I can then provide a functional design drawings in plan and elevation views to help you visualise how various aspects and requirements can be incorporated into a garden design.
Ideas and drawings can be presented electronically and on paper.

Production of a
Detailed Design Plan
This will show the finished design to scale and will take on board feedback and input from you. The plan will include details of recommended materials and sources for features e.g. pergola, summerhouse, lighting, seating, watering systems etc. If required, construction drawings can be created for landscapers.

Creation of a Planting Design Plan
A planting design can be provided in conjunction with a landscaping plan or on its own, if now landscaping is required.
The planting design takes in to account the soil type, drainage, aspect, amount of shade amongst other things and will include recommendations for trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, which will bring colour, texture and interest through the seasons.
A scale drawing of the planting plan is provided showing the location of plants based on mature size and this can be used by gardeners or plantspeople to plant up the garden. Elevation drawings and visualisation sketches of the planting design can also be provided to help visualise the finished garden.

Plant Maintenance Plan
A 12-month plant maintenance plan can also be produced which provides a month-by-month guide to advise how to care for each plant.
